LOAD AREA
The guests enter the load area, located in
the next room from the lobby/queue. It is a smallish room, seemingly
decorated in haste after a last-minute decision to allow the
public inside the facilities. Along the walls are more stupid
mottos like: "Poseidon/Chase: Finding Answers to Life's
Questions," "What's Going On Down There? Ask Poseidon/Chase!"
and "Don't Worry! Poseidon/Chase is On The Job!" The
guests board a series of boats which lie atop an exposed conveyor
belt. When loaded, the conveyor belt drops the boats into a small
water flume which takes them into the next room...
BRIEFING
ROOM
The boats enter from the load area and "back-up"
in this room, giving the load area significant leeway and preventing
the attraction from breaking down due to a slow-moving guest
or other occurrence. In this room, the guests are being briefed
by an ongoing video display featuring Mark Short, the head engineer
for Project Dante (the high-powered sonar project).
The following speech, like the pre-show video,
will also be on a continuous-loop and will be lengthened accordingly
to prevent repeated viewings by the guests.

. . . . . MARK SHORT |
For those of you just joining us, I am
professor Mark Short, head engineer for Project Dante; and on
behalf of Poseidon/Chase, I'd like to welcome you to the 13th
public testing of our new Super Sonar technology. This is all
so very exciting folks, in just a few moments you will find yourself
in the open ocean, at the testing site of our new experimental
sonar. Now let me take this time to reassure you all that the
reports you might have heard regarding shark attacks in these
waters have all been fabricated by our competitors. But nevertheless
we ask that you please remain seated at all times, keeping your
hands and arms inside the boat, and no flash photography please
our test area is lined with a series of very sensitive light
sensors which could be falsely triggered by the flash from your
camera. Your boats are self-navigational and will follow a preset
path that will keep you a safe distance from the danger area.
We're all very proud of this new navigational system, developed
here at our Poseidon/ Chase laboratories. Some day, your very
own car may utilize this technology, allowing you to whisk-off
to work while you read the morning paper or drink a nice cup
of coffee. It's just another way that Poseidon/Chase puts YOU
into the future! Well, we're just about ready for the start of
our sonar test - I can see some of your boats already heading
out to the testing site. Let me also remind you that for those
of you with sensitive hearing, you may want to cover your ears.
It has been known to be a bit loud at times... |
|
A pack of four boats will be let out of this
room at a time at an appropriate interval and will travel "outside"
on a flume to the ocean below...-
EXPERIMENT
SITE
The group of four boats approach the test
site which is located in the "open ocean." The test
site is marked by a large circle of buoys with "Danger"
signs on them. An official voice speaks to us from tinny speakers
mounted in the buoys as the boats approach and stop alongside
them.
| . . . . .
. . . . . PROJECT ANNOUNCER |
All right, Project Dante - test thirteen
ready to go. All instruments ready. For the spectators down below
at the test site, we remind you that there is to be no flash
photography. This is for your safety as the navigation system
on your boats will be affected by a sudden flash of light. Let
me just recheck some figures here, one moment please... |
|
At this time, a fifth boat (the "Dummy
Boat #1 - just like the other four, but filled with limited-animation
figures posing as guests) can now be seen approaching the test
site, following the same path as the guests' boats. One of the
figures takes a flash picture and their boat veers off course
and enters the restricted area. The figures on the Dummy Boat
start calling out but the announcer continues his spiel, unaware...

. . . . . PROJECT ANNOUNCER (Cont'd) |
Okay, everything checks out and we're
ready to go. On my mark, gentlemen. Sonar signal testing to begin
in 5, 4, 3, 2. Oh! Hold it! We have something amiss! One moment
folks and we'll have everything put right... |
|
The dummies in the Dummy boat relax.
| . . . . .
. . . . . PROJECT ANNOUNCER (Cont'd) |
. . . . . .(muffled-talking
in private)
| Well plug it back
in! My goodness. How much do we pay you here? |
. . . . . .(normal)
| All right, folks,
we have the situation under control. It seems that Dr. Callan's
cat has gotten loose and managed to jump on top of our control
panel, stepping on some buttons that should never be pushed.
Dr. Callan is one of our top executives here and she is a direct
descendent of one of our founders, the late Dr. Oskar Poseidon.
Okay, once again, gentlemen, on my mark! Testing to start in
five, four, three, two, one! |
|
|
A loud, continuous "sonary" sound
(actually sounding more like a foghorn) emanates from the ocean.
The surface of the water becomes greatly agitated. A few dolphins
stick their heads out of the water and make distress cries to
the sky.
| . . . . .
. . . . . PROJECT ANNOUNCER (Cont'd) |
. . . . . .(a
bit nervous)
| Ah, ladies and gentlemen,
the dolphins do that sort of thing regularly. They're not in
any kind of distress of anything. Our scientists tell us it's
part of their mating ritual and has nothing to do with our testing. |
|
|
A loud thunderclap sounds as we suddenly hear
the commanding voice of Poseidon emanating from the skies around
us.
| . . . . .
. . . . . POSEIDON |
. . . . . .(angry/shouting)
| Who dares to proclaim
themselves a god and send a thunderous death raining down upon
my defenseless subjects!?! Who dares to outrage my temple - my
kingdom?!? |
. . . . . .(calmer,
authoritative)
| I am Poseidon, Lord
of the Seas; and for your insolence I command you to face trial
in the great court of Aigia. |
|
|
A large whirlpool forms in the restricted
area, sucking the Dummy Boat underwater.
| . . . . .
. . . . . POSEIDON (Cont'd) |
Alas! Are the brave and courageous mortals
afraid of getting wet? |
|
Another giant whirlpool starts near the guests,
boats. Like magic, it slowly rises on its side and becomes a
tunnel. The boats start to enter.
| . . . . .
. . . . . POSEIDON (Cont'd) |
. . . . . .(beckoning)
| Come to me!, Enter
the underwater palace of Aigia. For it is in the Aegean depths
I await you and to Aigia you shall come. Come hither to the palace
of Poseidon. |
