The History section of this web site is very sparse, especially the pages from 1980, onward. With time, these pages will be flushed out with lots of photos, and the sparse text will be replaced with, ah, well - it'll be replaced. The text following 1980 comes directly from Joe Nolte. Hopefully someone out there will be "encouraged" to write me with alternate ideas about the events described...

So by February I couldn't take it - I called Mike up and said we had to start

a new band. I told him to come up with a name. He called back in five

minutes with the worst name I've ever heard (and which I cannot now recall to

save my life). He called back in another five minutes to say "Just kidding -

you know we have to call it The Last."

You see, Mike and I had first joined forces at the inception of The Last,

before Vitus, or so many others. Additionally, Mike had come up with the name

"The Last".

So it made sense.

We got Luke Lohnes April 1st, Larry Manke in May, and Dave Nazworthy in June.

That fall we started playing, I was writing in earnest for the first time in

seven years, and by the end of the year we had a deal with SST records.
