Dec 27, 2001 - While reviewing the History pages, I see that Joe mentions a cool web site by/for The Leaving Trains. It has been overlooked, but I now correct that and add it to our Links page.
Dec 22, 2001 - Added scary Santa to the home page for the holidays. The gift he refers to is the same one as listed under the Dec 17 listing (the MP3 version of the "lost" "Look Again" album).
Dec 21, 2001 - Updated Discography pages related to "Painting Smiles on a Dead Man," which includes "Fade to Black EP," "Up in the Air," "Best of Louie Louie," "The Rebel Kind," and "The Radio Tokyo Tapes." Also minor fixes to the same page while I was at it...
Dec 20, 2001 - Added Joe's "stories behind the songs" for the 1983 album "Painting Smiles on a Dead Man" to the Discography page.
Note that the MP3 I updated on Dec 15 is now gone - replaced by the stuff on the MP3.com page.
Dec 19, 2001 - Updated the Gigs page. After a 3-year hiatus, The Last will play live! The first song will honor the late George Harrison.
Dec 17, 2001 - Finally got the "stories behind the songs" from Joe for the unreleased 1980 album "Look Again" (on the Discography page). When you go there, you will see an extra special Christmas present for you! Merry Christmas from The Last Web Site!
Dec 15, 2001 - Updated the MP3 for the song "Look Again" on the Discography page. The first version was made using Ray Gun, which altered the sound of the song and didn't take out the pops and clicks from the vinyl record in the way I had hoped. For this new version, I went in and manually took out most of the pops and clicks that I could find. Also, the MP3 file itself is of better quality than the previous one (192 kbps instead of 128 kbps), but, of course, it is also now double the size to download (7 MB instead of 4 MB).
Nov 28, 2001 - Redesigned the Links page to make it easier to find Last recordings to purchase (Just in time for the holidays!)
Added a couple of SST compilations to the Discography page. Still bugging Joe to get me more info for the other records...
Nov 13, 2001 - Added an opening sound to the Home Page.
Nov 12, 2001 - Combined the Sounds page with the Discography page. It seemed the best way to combat the problem that virtually all the sounds are being moved off this site to save space on my server. Bug Joe to send me the rest of the album info. Thank you.
Added a Message Board.
Nov 5, 2001 - Added a Quicktime video, and a new section to host it on. You guessed it, a Video page! The video clip is the band playing "Weekend Girl" and "Subway Song," plus an interview, all filmed by a local TV station in 1980. The band was playing at the Starwood.
Nov 3, 2001 - Reworked the Discography page to take better advantage of the "behind-the-scenes" info that Joe is providing on the songs and events of the time.
Small changes to Links page.
Oct 16, 2001 - Added a new feature on the Discography page, where Joe tells the stories behind the songs. Just click on the cover art to read the info. So far, only the songs related to the LA Explosion LP are written.
Oct 12, 2001 - Fixed the Sounds page to add links to CDnow's web site, where more sound clips can be found. Also changed it's look.
Added Dave Davies' web site to the Links page. Former Last bassist David Nolte is in Germany right now, touring with the Dave Davies Band.
Oct 9, 2001 - Moved the site from AOL to its new home at SBC Global, my new DSL server.
Converted the songs on the Sounds page to MP3s (with one exception) and added "Look Again" to the list. All songs are now complete, and not merely clips.
Added a few compilations to the Discography page.
Made some cosmetic changes to multiple pages, including a new background for the site, smaller default type, and other minor things. Now that baseball season has ended, I'll have more free time to fix / add more things.
Oct 6, 2001 - THIS PAGE IS MOVING! YES, AGAIN...
I have again decided to drop AOL. My brother (David) and my Mom have DSL, and have been telling me that I need to get it. I kept telling them that I didn't need DSL - that I don't do a whole lot of downloading and stuff, but they wouldn't take "no" for an answer. They tied me up, grabbed my credit cards and signed me up for a DSL account.
Of course, now that I have DSL, I can't go back - it's just too damn good. Instead of waiting for connections and slow access times, web surfing is now just like changing channels on a TV set.
So this all means that, once again, I am giving up on AOL. Just like before, I still have a bunch of free time left on my AOL account, but once that is used up, this site will simply vanish from this address. The new address for this site will be announced soon, and will be posted on this page. If you come back and find this site has vanished, check the Last's page on the Ultimate Band List - I will have the new site listed there. You can always just bookmark that page just in case...
I expect the AOL site will vanish in early 2002.
Besides all this, I made some minor fixes to a couple of pages (no content changes, so I don't really consider this an "update." If you spot problems, let me know!
Aug 17, 2000 - Fixed the expired links on the Links page. One of these was the Jeffrey Lee Pierce eulogy, which I have since moved to the History section (1996).
July 22, 2000 - This is Dan. I haven't left after all. Free Internet seemed to work okay for me at first, but then I just couldn't connect anymore. Also, I had problems with their email server - losing some email and getting others truncated. So I'm back on AOL (actually, I hadn't quite left yet). When Joe and Mike found this out, they decided I should continue to host the site - so back it moves.
Instead of moving to it's old spot, I made a new screen name for the site (although most of the pages are still located under the Dante101 location - I'm lazy). Everything else is pretty much the same.
May 7, 2000 - It may be a bit misleading putting the "last updated" date as today, as there is really nothing new - just changes. Firstly, is our new address here, and secondly are the changes to the Home Page. This is my last time working on this site, as from now, this site will be maintained by my brother, Mike Nolte. He has some cool ideas for this site in the future. As most of you know, Mike has been a member of The Last since its start, singing backing vocals, writing songs, and eventually playing keyboards.
Once again, I just want to say that the reason Mike is taking over the Last Web Site is because I'm closing my AOL account, and will lose the free web space they provided. Bye-bye...
May 6, 2000 - Mike is studying the basics of HTML as you read this. Right now. Right this very minute. He quit his job. He dumped his girlfriend. He sold his car. He gave up his life, and will devote all his time and energy into this web site, dammit! He hasn't slept in 2 months, and swore he won't get any rest until he's mastered all there is to know about web authoring.
I think he's just joking...
Anyway, this site will eventually move to ---------------
When the move happens, this address will simply disappear. There will be no page here to redirect you, so make a note of the new address now. NOW!
The Internet sure has been clogged up lately, huh? Damn Napster.
April 28, 2000 - Joe and Mike Nolte have decided that Mike will take over this site when my AOL account goes down the toilet. This should happen the first week of July (see 4/12 entry). Mike just called me tonight and let me know. I'll post the new address when we decide what it will be - I'm sure Mike will create a new screen name for the site so he doesn't get a lot of spam on his main account.
Joe procrastinates a lot. He's been meaning to send me lots of photos and things to fill up the history section for the past couple of years, but has not gotten around to it. In a way, that was nice, since I've been busy with other things, myself. I mention this here because I strongly suspect that since it takes Joe such a long time to get back to me about this web site and other things, he probably doesn't get back to those of you who may have emailed him. I just want to let you know that both Joe and I are very happy with all the email we've gotten from you all. It's great to hear from everyone (except the companies sending me spam adverts).
April 12, 2000 - I'm deleting my AOL account, and this site will go down with the ship. This site would have vanished already, but I found I have 3 months of free time coming to me (the only thing I can use my AOL Visa reward points for is free time). I am switching to a free internet provider, and leaving this web site to Joe if he wishes to continue it or not on another server. This site should be gone by the first week of July.
It was fun putting this site together. It would have been more fun had the band actually been active during these past few years, but, what can ya do?
It's been nice hearing from everyone out there. If you want Joe to continue this site on another server, I suggest sending him some email. I'm sure he loves hearing from Last fans. Who knows, you may persuade him to start the band back up! He's not doing anything!
Rumor has it Mike Nolte is ready to move back down to LA, having braved out Y2K up north in the wilderness. He sent me his diary written during the band's 1989 Summer tour, but made me promise not to put it on the site due to some 'sensitive material.' Maybe you'll see it if this site moves instead of disappearing. If it disappears, check out the Ultimate Band List every now and then to see if we resurface somewhere else...
Ex-Last bassist and rumored brother, David Nolte, has semi-recently had another child - James. He and his wife Kristi (of Wednesday Week fame) now have two kids: Ana Callan and James Nolte. David has been playing a lot lately with Dave Davies (yes, THE Dave Davies) and the Wondermints.
I'm currently still working at Disneyland, and writing scripts - planning one of these days to make a cheap indie film via digital video. Other than that, my life is kinda boring (other than a plane crash that occurred yesterday a few blocks away from my apartment): watching the occasional Dodger game on TV and downloading Residents stuff off the web. My new email address is -----------
Of course, the NOSPAM is not part of the address - I just don't want my new account to fill up with junk email like my AOL account did.
Aug 19, 1999 - Deleted song contest on Home Page, as I've mostly given away all my Disney tickets in exchange for Dodgers box seats - this way I can watch them lose in person, up close...
The band hasn't done anything as of late. There is no drummer, and Mike has moved up north to ride out Y2K in the forests of Oregon ;-)
Oct 4, 1998 - Updated Home Page by adding scrolling text announcing a contest to find out who does the song clip on the bottom of the page. I really like this song, and would love to buy a good copy of it. I recently had Keith Morris (Circle Jerks) and Tomata DuPlenty (Screamers) listen to it, but they didn't recognize it.
Fixed a formatting problem with the Discography Page which most of you will not notice.
Sept 4, 1998 - Updated Upcoming Shows page to add a planned show at the Viper Room on Nov 11.
Aug 13, 1998 - During a phone call from David, I learned that The Urinals (or rather, Happy Squid Records) have a web page! Up it goes on the Links page! I encourage you to visit it and to go see The Urinals if and when they play near you! They are great! I listed them under "Happy Squid Records" instead of The Urinals since the site is actually for Happy Squid, and they had a nice logo for me to use.
Also changed Joe's email address.
Made a few edits to my comments (as well as Joe's) on the Home Page.
Apr 11, 1998 - Edited my comments on the Home Page to reflect the site's inertia.
Mar 1, 1998 - Added more music clips to the Sounds page (clips of "Take Care of Her," "Anybody Else," and "Perfect World"). All are clips only (around a minute each) while the entire recording of "Red Hair" remains intact.
Made a few edits to my comments (as well as Joe's) on the Home Page.
Feb 18, 1998 - Put up the Sound page, with its link to download "Red Hair."
Feb 12, 1998 - Updated Upcoming Shows page.
Uploaded "Red Hair," a song from their recent demo, for downloading. It is in a secret place until Joe and David OK it. The three song demo was produced by ex-Last bassist David Nolte last year and also contains the songs "Take Care of Her" and "Anybody Else." I'd like to put the whole demo online, but my server won't let me put up a file larger than 2MB. Anything below that just sounds too crappy for me to bother putting up. If anyone wants to donate some web space, let me know!
Jan 19, 1998 - Updated info for Wednesday Week's concert on Upcoming Shows page.
Jan 18, 1998 - Finally get to add the Upcoming Shows page, with the band's plans to play during the Poptopia '98 festival in February! First gig the band has played in almost a year.
Dec 16, 1997 - Added Joe's bare text for the remainder of the History pages. Joe wondered why I hadn't put up the text he sent me over a month ago for the history pages. The text is very sparse, and I have been waiting for photos from him as well as contributions from David and Mike. Joe insisted I put up the bare text he sent me, just so something would be there - that we could improve it later.
Nov 21, 1997 - Added a couple of album covers on Discography page.
Minor changes again to Links page (added link to The Residents' home page, put bands back in alphabetical order, fixed Netscape/CDnow error, and other small changes)
Nov 17, 1997 - Worked on History pages: 1977 (minor), 1978 (semi-major), and 1979 (major (new page)).
Fixed a few typos on various pages.
Nov 13, 1997 - Did minor work to many pages, basically fixing small things like alternate labels for images, etc.
Oops! Forgot all about the Non-Frames version of the History pages. It got messed up months ago when I redid the date graphics. Fixed it right up...
Added a couple of Reviews (1996) that Mike sent me the other day. Joe keeps promising to send me stuff (pictures, band history), but never does. Hasn't sent me anything for the past two months... If anyone out there in Cyberspace has any submissions, even stuff you wrote yourself, feel free to send them in! This can be a concert/record review, or just a funny story relating to the band... (Of course, as I sign on today to upload all this, there are 22 emails from Joe. Guess he came through after all...)
Changed Joe's words on the Home Page, from the email he just now sent me. Felt it needed updating the most. The other stuff he sent will be updated soon...
Nov 9, 1997 - Accidentally discovered that Cockeyed Ghost's web site has been relocated and upgraded. Updated their link on Links page, and, while I was there, made some minor changes to the look of the page. Win a prize if you guess what changes have been made. The prize is a kick in the ass...
Nov 7, 1997 - This page created, for users to check what exactly has been updated on this site without having to check every single page.
Added some pages to the Reviews section: 1980, 1996, and 1997. 1980 is from an old issue of the (now defunct) Last Fan Club newsletter ("A Fool Like You") by longtime friend, Mari Fulton. 1996 is a review of Gin & Innuendoes from "The Big Takeover" (thanks, Scott!). 1997 is a small mention from The Daily Breeze, listing the Last as one of the top ten bands of 1997.
Edited my comments on Home Page about my brothers losing interest in this site, due to Joe's promise that he is again working on stuff to email me for the history pages. Also edited the list of bands my brother David has played in, since it seems Lucky is in a state of limbo at the moment.
Took out the "under construction" stuff on the Home Page. Reason: most web pages are always changing, adding and deleting material. All the main sections of this site are up and running, except for the Upcoming Shows page - and that is simply because The Last have not played any gigs since this web site has been updated. While others sections of this site have a long way to go before they are complete, there IS stuff there now...
Oct 17, 1997 - added a sound clip on the bottom of the Home Page that has nothing to do with The Last. I've been trying to find out the name of the band who plays this song for years now.
